The Ginetta GRS was a kit car built from 1982 until 1989, in four different incarnations.

Series 1 (Tora)

The Series 1 was a Range Rover look-alike estate kit car that was based on mechanicals from a Hillman Hunter. The powerplant of choice was the 1725cc Hillman unit but others could be fitted depending on the owners choice.

The kits cost was £1,249 for a basic body/chassis unit that was not painted or trimmed.

Series 2

The Series 2 was much like the Series 1. It too was a Range Rover look-alike estate kit car which was based on Hillman Hunter mechanicals. The engine of choice was still the 1725cc Hillman unit but others could be fitted depending on the owners choice.

The Series 2 featured a full length rear door and a side filler cap which made it a little more attractive for use everyday. The large tailgate also facilitated easier loading of the vehicle.

The price was still £1,249 for the basic body/chassis unit which was not painted or trimmed.

Series 3

The Series 3 was radically different from the Series 1 and Series 2. The Series 3 did not resemble a Range Rover but instead was a 4-door estate car.

The reason the Series 3 was so different is because it was based on a Ford Cortina rather than a Hillman Hunter. The cars were fitted with either the Ford 2.0 litre engine or the Perkins diesel engine.

Only two copies of the Series 3 were made, be sold at £1,695 each.

Pickup

The Pickup was an alternated version of the Series 1 GRS. It too was based on Hillman Hunter mechanicals and could be fitted with the 1725cc Hillman engine, or an alternative at the customers request.

In total over 320 Ginetta GRS kits were built.
