The MG EX181 was a car built by the MG Car Company in 1957 for land speed record attempts in its engine size class.
It had a 300 hp supercharged version of the MGA Twin Cam engine. It reached 254 mph on the Utah Salt Flats being driven by Phil Hill.
It was originally fitted with a 1489cc supercharged MGA Twin cam engine which produced 290 bhp at 7000 rpm. The car was run on a mixture of 86% methanol laced with nitrobenzene, acetone and sulphuric ether. The British driver Stirling Moss drove it to 245.64 mph (395.31 km/h).
In 1959 the engine capacity was increased to 1506cc producing over 300 bhp at 7300 rpm. The car was still run on a mixture of 86% methanol laced with nitrobenzene, acetone and sulphuric ether. The American driver Phil Hill manages to take the car up to a top speed of 254.91 mph (410.23 km/h) -
To this day still the fastest MG ever.
